This Blog has Moved.

Hi! This blog has moved to here It is my personal website and I thought it would be best to keep all my personal projects and work related content together along with my personal portfolio. I also have a blog for my personal interest which is outside of graphic design and focuses on:

  • yummy homemade recipes, good hearty meals which are often quick as i live a busy lifestyle in the city.
  • gardening - space is limited in London, however you can grow your own in the smallest of spaces! wether its a windowsill, balcony or tiny garden.
  • Cats! those cute crazy pets that have a love hate relationship with their owners! I post from time to time some photography and typically my two domestic felines are often in the spotlight.
The content of the blog continues to grow as its still finding its feet. You can follow it here, i would love to know your thoughts especially if you have tried any of the recipes for  yourself.

The Gathering Goddess

After making the big move to London in August, I eventually found a Graphic design internship where I have been working for the past 3 months. I have now finished with them, however I have really enjoyed producing the marketing material for their websites and social media platforms.

I thought i'd share with you all some of the hard work I have produced over the past 12 weeks which includes

  • Logo identity design for vintage boutique The Gathering Goddess, to promote their in-house restoration & alteration services
  • Logo icon for their 5 step DALIR process
  • Fashion banners for their website & social media pages
  • Email html template

Dancers

I have been working on a short series of dancers (3) looking at the form of fabric when moving. This is an abstract approach, the fabric is the main point of attraction and is therefore the brightest element on the design. I took away the facial features of the dancers in order to focus the attention on the form and shapes of the fabric. I particularly liked working with the transparencies, which proved to be the most challenging.

The Unremarkable book

The Unremarkable book and other stories, is a collection of short stories written by Chris Green. It will be released as a Ebook for people to enjoy and read. The cover was designed to be fairly unremarkable, but intriguing enough to catch your eye on an old bookshelf. To read more about this book and to see more of Chris’s work click here.

Daleys Coffee Shop

Daleys is a restaurant and coffee shop in the heart of Bury st Edmunds. It is a traditional restaurant with a wide ranging menu of delicious homemade dishes. However it is now looking fairly left behind compared to the rest of Bury st Edmunds.
With the new development The Arc shopping center and its many new trendy and modern cafe and shops, there is more competition than ever but also the potential to attract lots of customers to its doors. I decided to produce a new concept to refresh the brands image and make it a top choice to stop for a drink or bite to eat.

Grow

Grow is a concept for children aged between 3-5 years. It is a ‘grow your own’ range of products in which they can grow their own plant with the help of their parents. The kit comes with everything you need to start the process, including a very simple set of instructions. All they need to add is the water, they can choose from growing a strawberry plant, a sunflower plant or a butterfly & bees wildflower mix.

I created the Branding and packaging design for this concept. I wanted to target my product to parents and decided to create packaging which reflected this and stood out against the current market.

Final Major Project - Label

I have been extremely busy the past few weeks and have neglected my blogger, naughty me. So i have nearly finished my final major project and thought I would share with you some of the progress. I have designed the logo, and also incorporated illustration into the fashion lookbook. I have combined my strong design aspects including page layouts, illustration and branding which has all come together nicely for this self initiated brief. Take a look at the images and see what you think.

Collaborative brief 2

I have now finished and handed in my 2nd project within the collaboration module. I worked with Cubiq Design's director John Treby whom provided me with the brief Secret Agent Beauty. Secret Agent Beauty are a new cosmetics brand focusing on the eyes and lips. I produced the logo, packaging design and a GWP (gift with purchase). The brief was a shorter project than most of what we receive, which was good because it represents more realistically the turn around time of most briefs in the design industry.
In regards to briefs for University I am now on my final major project, which will officially start on Wednesday the 7th March. I have a few ideas which I am considering, mostly relating to either Branding or Illustration. I will keep you updated and show snippets during my process.

Collaborative project 1

I have finally finished my first brief (out of 2) for the module collaboration project. The first brief we were given was a selection of briefs from D&ad and i decided to go with the make your mark brief. This allowed for free reign with one goal, of getting yourself and your work noticed. I decided to produce a promotional pack to send to niche clients, and illustration agencies, focusing on my strongest unique feature that makes me, Me. The following photo shows a snippets of how this went (mock up not final printed version). I am hoping to follow through my self-branding and have the website re designed to match this for when i send these packages out. Any thoughts? let me know.

Vector Artist

I often wonder wether working in vector illustration makes my work more easily dismissed compared to other illustrators who work mainly by hand. I love working with illustrator and i have developed a way of working which suits me. I am a good drawer not exceptional but illustrator allows me to develop this further and to create beautiful pieces.
Fashion, nature and the pretty little things in life inspire my work. I hope at the end of my 3rd year of graphic design to have a portfolio of work which reflects this. I have been very fashion focused this year and it is defiantly pushing me down the fashion industry path, wether that is fashion illustration or graphic design for fashion brands only time will tell. I hope to achieve my goals this year and i am constantly striving to be among the best. I guess it must be one of those things you either really like or dislike, a bit like marmite. Anyways take a look at my work and decide for yourself, feel free to add opinions.

Unveil magazine

For my specialist pathways brief, i decided to assign myself a brief of creating a new creative arts and fashion magazine. I had to brand this magazine and also create illustrations for some of the articles that would feature in this magazine.

The target group were: young, sophisticated people who appreciate design and fashion.
This small niche target market allowed me to focus on what they would want to see in a magazine of this nature (contents and design etc)

The final design idea was a periodical highly aesthetic-produced magazine. Designed to be published twice a year at the same time as either the s/s fashion or the a/w fashion. The magazine was to be made with good quality textured paper throughout, and also to include some fabric. To be contained in a white protective case.

I have not included every page i deigned but the photos show a good over view i hope of my work.
(All images found on google-images and used because it worked with the magazine, if this was produced and sold then all images would not be used without owners consent etc)

I hope you like my design :)

Back at Uni + New etsy shop!

Well it has certainly been a busy summer for me! I am back at university now for my final year and we have so much to do. I am currently spreading my time over the week to 3 modules and also part time work. My 3 modules consist of the dissertation, which I am going to be studying about fashion illustration and how this artists role has changed and why. The second module is specialist pathways and I am specializing in illustration, to produce the branding of a new arts and fashion magazine and also to illustrate the articles that accompany this magazine. The final brief is Digital New Media studies which consists of a brief, and also writing/presentation/test. I have found a suitable brief of designing a magazine tablet which is proving to be very interesting. I will post up my progress along the way I am sure it is going to be a very valuable and exciting final year.

I have in my spare time (the small tiny amount that i can spare) been able to finally set up my new Etsy shop. I was very excited to be able to get it onto my website and add the new listings of my beautiful work. Please go take a look, there is hopefully something you will fall in love with and will want to buy :)
